3. 5 Tips for Writing Your Retail Manager Cover Letter
1. Be specific: Make sure you are clear about your previous roles and exactly what your achievements and responsibilities were. Management positions have clearly delineated responsibilities – make sure your cover letter shows you can live up to them.
2. Emphasize skills: Experience is great, but to really shine as a Retail Manager, show that you have what it takes to be in charge. Talk about your motivational abilities and showcase experiences where you used leadership skills to get the job done.

3. Quantify: If you can use numbers, do it. Avoid simply saying, “Trained multiple employees.” Instead try, “Trained 7+ employees over a 10 month period.”
4. Sell yourself: The point of an application is not to simply explain what you’ve done before, but to show you are the right choice for the job. Instead of numbly listing some responsibilities you had, write about what you achieved while carrying out those responsibilities.
5. In their own words: Take words and phrases from the original job posting and use them in your cover letter. This shows hiring managers you are speaking directly to their needs. Don’t force it, but if you can smoothly stick a few in there it will work to get an employer’s attention.

I’d like to express interest in the retail associate position that you have posted on your corporate website. I believe I would make a great addition to your sales team, and I have the resume to prove it.
You asked for someone loyal, punctual and with experience in money handling. I happen to have all of these qualities in abundance. I’ve worked at my last job, Mr. Handy, since I was a 16-year-old summer employee, steadily climbing the ladder until I became a shift lead when I was just 19. I was promoted over much older and more experienced candidates because I understood the demands of the job and how to raise the store in the estimation of our customers.
How did I accomplish this? As you can see in my resume, I created a customer feedback program that was eventually adopted in all the stores across the county. I came up with the idea, called the vendors, ordered the cards and trained the employees myself. The program was a hit, and in the course of just six months, our average score went from “excellent” to “phenomenal.” Based on the suggestions of our shoppers, we were able to refine our customer service policies until they satisfied a staggering 95 percent.
As for money handling experience, I’ve been everything from a cashier to an inventory input coordinator. I was also trusted with the key to the vaults as part of my duties as a shift lead. I’ve enclosed the numbers of two of my past managers, for verification.
Punctuality has never been an issue for me either. In all my years at Mr. Handy, I’ve only been late a handful of times. The head manager used to comment that I was more dependable than he was. I also picked up extra shifts when others weren’t available, and I often stayed late at the request of senior employees in order to finish a project or help them count the day’s money.

I saw that you’re looking for a dynamic, high-energy sales representative to work on the main floor of your store. I’m here to tell to submit my resume for the position.
I’ve been in retail my entire life, starting with a seasonal position at American Clothes and eventually branching out to their affiliate company Mens Suiting. I volunteered for the transfer because I enjoy new environments and opportunities, and I was also eager to test my skills against their sales team, the #1 in the district.
To say that I learned a lot from them would be an understatement; they taught me more than I ever could have imagined about sales. Under their tutelage, I became an expert in helping and motivating customers to purchase items which lead to many return customers. I also refined my skills in cashiering, money handling and stocking merchandise. I even took an outside, unpaid course in loss prevention.
My last position was an extremely demanding due to its high volume of both customers and product shipments. Though my primary responsibilities involved being face-to-face with customers, I also did a fair amount of ordering and inventory management in the back. I’m equally effective on the floor or behind the scenes, and I can complete any task that you put in front of me.
If you’re wondering about my confidence, I believe that it’s a necessary component to making a sale. Customers won’t have faith in the brand unless you do as well, and I can project a firm, friendly image that leaves no doubt in their minds that the products are the best.
As for the physical demands of the position that you listed in the job description, they won’t be a problem. I can work 10+ hours on my feet without an issue. You’ll find my energy and enthusiasm unchanged no matter how long the shift.
